The Audi A7 Sportback is one of our absolute favorite four-door GT cars on the market. It’s quick, smooth, comfortable, fun to drive and incredibly stylish, both inside and out. It’s also surprisingly practical, thanks to its lift-back tailgate. Now, though, you can add another attribute to its resume — it’s safe.
According to the IIHS, the 2021 Audi A7 Sportback now gets the desirable “Top Safety Pick+” designation. What’s interesting is that the 2020 A7 was only designated as a “Top Safety Pick”, without the added “+”. The reason for the 2021 model getting the higher designation over the 2020 model is its new as-standard LED headlights.
The outgoing 2020 Audi A7 had relatively poor standard headlights, whereas the 2021 Audi A7 gets standard LED lamps with a 5500k temperature rating, which provide a cool, daylight-like level of illumination.
It isn’t just some fancy new headlight tech that makes the Audi A7 Sportback a Top Safety Pick+. The rest of the car is incredibly safe as well, with excellent crash protection, countless airbags and clever autonomous driver aids. For instance, Audi Pre Sense Front gives the A7 the ability to sense when something ahead of the car could potentially be dangerous, warn the driver and even hit the brakes if necessary. It can even notice a pedestrian riding a bicycle across the street at speeds of up to 52 mph.
The Audi A7 Sportback also has adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and rear cross-traffic assist. The latter of which allows the car to warn the driver of traffic crossing behind the car when pulling out of a driveway or parking spot.
So not only is the Audi A7 Sportback a sexy, exciting choice; thanks to its killer styling and fun-to-drive nature; but it’s also practical and safe, making it a sensible family vehicle. If you’re in the market for any luxury car in the A7’s price range, it’s hard to pass up the incredibly combination of style and pragmatism that is the A7.
