Mahindra & Mahindra will introduce a wide range of new SUVs including the new-gen XUV500, Scorpio, TUV300 facelift, e-KUV100 and the XUV300 electric. The new-gen Mahindra Scorpio is scheduled to be launched in mid next year – April to June. The new model will come with all-new design, and spacious, completely re-designed interior. Adding to it, the SUV will receive all-new engine options with manual and automatic gearboxes.
The new-gen Scorpio will be designed and developed on the modified version of the body-on-ladder frame, which also underpins the new Mahindra Thar. Called the ZEN3, the new architecture is claimed to improve the new SUV’s performance, off-road capabilities and safety quotient.
Going by the spy images, it is visible that the new model will retain the overall boxy profile; however, the design elements will be completely new. It will be equipped with an all-new front grille with the signature five-slot design and all-new headlamps. The top-end variants will have LED projector headlamps with LED DRLs (Daytime Running Lamps).
The new Scorpio will have larger front bumper with wider air-intakes, longer hood and a more inclined windscreen. The SUV will have newly-designed alloys, strong beltline on the side, usable roof-rails, and larger glass area for the rear occupants. The SUV will have prominent wheel arches, bolder shoulder creases, blacked-out pillars and a larger tailgate. It will have roof-integrated spoiler, LED tail-lamps and dual-tone lower-bumper.
The new-gen Mahindra Scorpio will grow in size, which should help Mahindra to create more space inside the cabin. The wheelbase of the SUV will be increased, which in return offers more legroom for the second and third row occupants. Adding to it, Mahindra will also offer multiple seating options. The new model could receive front-facing third row of seat.
The SUV will have all-new dashboard with better quality plastic and fit and finish. It will have a new advanced touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The SUV could also receive connected car technologies. It will have new air-conditioning vents, new multi-functional steering wheel, cruise control, adjustable driver’s seat, automatic AC, etc. If reports are to be believed, the new-gen Scorpio could also be benefitted with Head-Up Display (HUD) unit mounted on the dashboard in the front of the driver’s seat. The new-gen Scorpio is also expected to receive electric sunroof.
The new-gen Mahindra Scorpio will be offered with two new engine options – a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel and a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol. These engines currently powers the new-generation Thar, but in lower states of tunes. It is expected that the diesel engine could be tuned to produce around 160bhp of power and close to 350Nm of torque for the new Scorpio. The petrol engine is capable of producing up to 190bhp of power and 380Nm of torque. However, this engine will be de-tuned for the Scorpio. While powering the Thar, the turbocharged petrol engine offers 150bhp and 320Nm of torque. ransmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.
