What are the standards and expectations regarding the 2022 Audi A4 Wagon? Read on to find out.
Although little information has been released so far regarding the 2022 Audi A4 Wagon, there has been a lot of speculation about what aspects, quirks, perks, and features it may have. A lot of the speculation is fueled by rumors about the 2022 A4, as well as what trends the A4 has exhibited in previous years. And, of course, what little information has been confirmed by the company has also led to many theories. After all, this isn’t the first time wild mass guessing has been instituted when a new model is close to arrival. The public also has certain standards and expectations that they hope the 2022 A4 meets.
Changes Will Be Subtle But Distinct
Audi will likely not make any major changes to their 2022 A4 wagon. What changes will occur are intended to be small, subtle improvements that create a distinct impact, similar to the changes Audi made when they unveiled their 2021 lineup. It wasn’t long ago that Audi unveiled their 2021 lineup, but it shouldn’t be far into 2021 before the 2022 model is unleashed upon the public.
The Audi A4 is the company’s most popular and highest-selling sedan, and 2022 will be the sixth generation for the A4. The fifth-generation for the A4 began in 2017. Several renderings have been made, giving massive speculation and clues about its exterior and interior appearance. In 2021, the Audi A4 got powertrain tweaks and a 13 HP boost, for a total of 261 HP. A mild-hybrid system combining a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-pot engine and a 12-volt mild-hybrid electric system is to thank for the power boost.
Carindigo.com has said they “expect the 2022 Audi A4 to carry on with the same mild-hybrid powertrain setup, though it’s too soon to speculate anything about the powertrain specs of the 2022 Audi A4.” That said, they bet Audi plans to keep the mild-hybrid powertrain with its superior fuel economy and decreasing emissions.
The Platform Could Possibly Shift
Audi is, so far, planning to keep the current MLB platform that the A4 uses, as opposed to the MQB platform that the A1, A3, and TT use. When Audi refreshed its entire A4 lineup, the next iteration of A4s was already being worked on. While Audi hopes the sixth generation will continue the success of its predecessors, there’s no guarantee that they’ll keep the MLB platform at this point. However, according to Automobile Magazine, Audi plans, with regards to their 2022 A4, to “stick to the MLB platform like the current car with its longitudinally-mounted engines.” However, Automobile Magazine also pointed out an earlier report that noted Audi considered using the MQB platform for the 2022 A4 as a cost-cutting exercise.
After all, the move from the sophisticated MLB platform to the mainstream MQB and transversally-mounted engines could have resulted in $1 billion in savings for the company. That said, the company also had to weigh the real concerns about how their premium brand image could suffer from the release of an MQB-based A4.
Touchscreen Integrated Into Dashboard
Another option for the 2022 A4 is to discontinue the use of a separate touchscreen and integrate its separate features into places on the dashboard. Many companies speculate that more changes will be made to the cabin than to the exterior, resulting in the removal of the tablet-styled MMI infotainment system. Adding credibility to this theory is the fact that other Audi models have already ditched said infotainment system. In addition, further speculation suggests that the car’s traditional climate controls will be replaced with a new, small, secondary touchscreen that is mounted lower on the center console. Once again, fueling this thought is the existence of this setup in Audi’s current larger models.
